Located to the southeast of Damascus, al-Seida Zeinab is one of the most important Shia shrines in Syria. The mosque is said to contain the grave of Zaynab, granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad. It is a center of mass pilgrimage.
The mosque currently housing the tomb of Zaynab was built in the 1990s. It features a gold-leafed dome, traditional for Shia mosques, with the tomb resting in a structure directly below the dome. The mosque also features doors made of gold, intricate mirror work and two minarets.
