The Sinai region of Egypt has a long history, with evidence for settlement from the First Dynasty (ca. 3000 BCE). Mount Sinai, in the region has religious significance in the Abrahamic faiths. Other notable archaeological sites within the Sinai peninsula are St. Catherine’s Monastery, the oldest working Christian monastery, and a number of ancient Egyptian temples.
